Main Street Musicians

Continuing the slides from a day at Disneyland enjoyed by the LAPD and their families. The Disneyland band has broken into various smaller bands and this Main Street band is playing next to Carnation Gardens. Check out the goatee on the drummer, looks like he moonlights in a jazz band or folk band.

Having been a CM at the time, I can recall most of these fellows and can 'hear' the music playing. Always got a kick out of the bass drummer. For being the "Happiest Place on Earth", he always had a deadpan 'sourpuss' look that made me laugh. I got the impression he hated to carry that drum weight around. KS

A couple of the musicians in this picture were longtime members of the Pearly Band that played in the Park, often in Fantasyland. In particular is Jack Martin on the alto sax. He was a member of several well known orchestras before coming to Disneyland, and was also one of the nicest and most
down-to-earth people you could ever meet.

That "sourpuss" on the bass drum was Ron Rowe, indeed one of the original Pearlies, one of the last groups actually hired personally by Walt Disney. Ron was absolutely NO sourpuss, but a great guy who also played piano for me in the summer of 1980 when I was understudy to Wally Boag at the Golden Horseshoe Revue.
